Over 6,000 police officers to ensure public order at elections

Chisinau, 10 July /MOLDPRES/- Over 6,630 employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will ensure public order at Sunday's snap parliamentary election. The announcement was made today by the leadership of the General Inspectorate of Police.

The deputy head of the Inspectorate, Marin Maxian, said in a briefing that the police will intervene in the coming days, and on election day to maintain public order at the more than 2,000 polling stations and to monitor compliance with COVID-19 prevention measures.

Maxian said that the police will ensure security of all persons participating in the elections, will provide assistance to electoral bodies and local public authorities in order to keep material goods at electoral councils and bureaus, to escort the transportation of ballot papers and ensure their integrity. He added that on election day, road transport will also be monitored. At the same time, the security of the courthouses within which the electoral councils are located will be ensured, where the ballot papers will be kept until the validation of the elections.

During the campaign, 1,968 electoral meetings took place on the territory of the country, attended by over 21 thousand citizens. Also, during this period, 135 violations were found, including 37 cases of illegal display and 26 cases of violation of anti-COVID-19 measures.

Snap parliamentary elections will be held in Moldova on 11 July.
