Chisinau, 12 February /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu has had a phone conversation with Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Helga Schmid, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.

„We continue to coordinate the actions with the partners and to closely monitor the security situation in the region,’’ Minister Nicu Popescu said.

At the discussion, the Moldovan diplomacy head noted that Moldova firmly backed the work of the OSCE’s special monitoring mission in Ukraine, where Moldova significantly contributes through detaching experts.

Context note: The OSCE special monitoring mission (SMM) in Ukraine was carried out on 21 March 2014, following a request made to OSCE by the Ukrainian government and a consensus decision by all those 57 participating states. SMM is an unarmed civilian mission, present on site in all regions of Ukraine. Its principal tasks are to observe and impartially and objectively monitor the situation in Ukraine and facilitate the dialogue between all sides in crisis.
