Moldovan, German officials approach current issues

Chisinau, July 13. /MOLDPRES/- Deputy speaker Mihail Popșoi had a meeting with President of the German Bundestag Bärbel Bas. The heads of the standing committees also participated in the event, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.

The officials discussed Moldova's reform agenda, security situation in the region and European path of the country.

Mihail Popșoi thanked for the approval in 2022 of the Bundestag Resolution, which expresses support for Moldova's European path.

"We make maximum effort to meet the recommendations of the European Union. Moldova wants to be part of the great family of the European Union", he said.

He also said that the parliament wants to boost the bilateral dialogue at the level of the leadership of the legislatures, the relevant commissions and the secretariats.

He said that this year we mark 30 years of cooperation between the two countries, and throughout this period Germany has provided significant financial support for the implementation of various projects and reforms.

Bärbel BAS said that Germany supports Moldova's European path.

"I congratulate you for the important steps you have taken after last year you submitted your application to join the European Union. You have already met some of the conditions. On behalf of the German people, I express my support for Moldova's accession to the EU. I am sure Moldova will be part of the great European family", said Bärbel Bas.

The heads of the standing committees, both from the government and the opposition, approached a wide range of issues: the achievements and difficulties of the government in the economic and social fields, justice reform, combating disinformation and threats to national security etc. 

After the meeting, the president of the Bundestag signed the Parliament's Book of Honor, visited the children's room in the Legislature and familiarized with the painting and graphics exhibition, Anatol Ghimpu - 30 years of teaching activity.

This is the second visit of a president of the Bundestag to Moldova since the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries.
