Moldovan government earmarks 16 million lei for localities affected by bad weather

Chisinau, July 28. /MOLDPRES/- The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) and the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) have already prepared the first batch of construction materials for the localities affected by the bad weather of the last few days. Minister of Internal Affairs Adrian Efros made the statement at the beginning of the extraordinary meeting of the government, which convened to provide support to the localities where the most damage was recorded.

Prime Minister Dorin Recean announced that government provides material aid to 74 localities in six districts in the north of the country. The support will reach the citizens in the form of construction materials from the state's reserves, amounting to over 16 million lei (800 thousand euros).

Minister of Internal Affairs said that the first batch of aid includes over 1000 sheets of slate and about 25 cubic meters of timber. "The aid is ready and will be transported to Edineț, the district that was most affected by the bad weather", Efros said.

He said that according to preliminary information, torrential rains with strong winds affected more than 100 localities in 10 districts, especially in the northern and central parts of the country. As a result, the roofs of more than 60 residential houses and 18 other social and cultural buildings were damaged. The bad weather destroyed over 700 hectares of agricultural land: fields, vineyards and orchards.

"Today we convened in an extraordinary meeting to earmark the necessary means to reduce the impact of the bad weather. Together, we try to repair the damage as soon as possible. It is important that we move quickly and repair houses, roofs, including at public institutions. The Agriculture Ministry representatives should go and see how we compensate for the losses in the case of orchards and other agricultural crops", said Recean.

The heavy rain and strong wind of the last few days have caused damage in several localities in the north and center of the country. The most damage was recorded in Edineț, Soroca, Dondușeni, Râșcani and Drochia districts.
