Chisinau, 31 July /MOLDPRES/ - The Intelligence and Security Service (SIS) today informed that it denounced two agreements on partnership with Russia’s intelligence services.

According to a press release issued by SIS, following the starting of the needed legal procedures, the Moldovan Service denounced the Agreement on partnership with Russia’s Federal Intelligence Service (FSB). The official notifications were sent to the Russian authorities.

At the same time, SIS submitted the necessary approaches, through the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE), on the denunciation of the agreement on cooperation with Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR).

According to the quoted source, starting from 24 February 2022, with Russia’s invasion in Ukraine, the cooperation relations of SIS with Russia’s intelligence services were ceased, so that the concerned agreements do not have a practical applicability, being, actually non-functional.

According to SIS, the provisions of the these agreements, signed in 1994, including the additional protocols, represented legal clauses invoked by Russia to reason the presence of the Russian intelligence service in Moldova’s region on the left bank of Dniester. Thus, with the denunciation of these agreements, Russia cannot file such ‘’arguments.’’

„SIS does not maintain relations of external partnership with the counterpart structures of other states, which obviously defy the legislation and act to the detriment of the national security, carry out subversive activities against Moldova, including of undermining the functionality of the state’s democratic institutions, of destabilization of the social and political, economic situation and of jeopardizing the country’s territorial integrity,’’ the institution’s press release reads.
