Moldovan Supreme Court of Justice to have more limited powers

17:30 | 31.07.2023 Category: Social

Chisinau, 31 July /MOLDPRES/ - Fifty five lawmakers adopted a draft law on the amendment of the normative framework of the reform of the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) in the second reading today.

The need of this draft law appeared, after the parliament had adopted the new Law on the Supreme Court of Justice. This normative act sees that CSJ will have more limited powers and will not act as the second court of appeal, at it is at present. As a result, the number of rulings issued by CSJ will be reduced and emphasis will be put on the setting in order of the way the law is interpreted and enforced in the justice system.

The basic goal of the legislative initiative is to create a coherent normative framework, through the exclusion of any kind of inconsistencies between the norms of the new Law on CSJ. Thus, the MPs approved amendments to the Law on the judicial organization, the Law on the status of judge, Criminal Procedure Code, Civil Procedure Code, Administrative Code, Law on the single classifier of public offices and to the Law on the single system of paying wages in the public sector.
