Chisinau, 15 November /MOLDPRES/ - The findings in Brussels shows that Moldova has the best dynamic of reforms out of all countries candidates for accession to the European Union. Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu today made statements to this effect at a news conference.

According to the official, the efforts and progress made by Moldova are clearly recorded and recognized, noting that, on their basis, the country had received the European Commission’s recommendation on the  initiation of the negotiations on accession to EU. ‘’During the visit to Brussels, I had more meetings with European officials, with whom I discussed the next steps in the accession process. We have practically finished the measures we set to fulfill in the process of the country’s preparation for the negotiations on accession. On 8 November this year, EU found out that Moldova had fully fulfilled six recommendations, while the other ones are almost fulfilled. This fact means, and I will here cite a figure communicated by the European Commission, on those nine recommendations, that Moldova has fulfilled 94 per cent of the measures scheduled for achieving the full implementation,’’ Nicu Popescu said.

The deputy PM stressed that certain measures were left, which must be implemented, such as the continuous progress and the ensuring of a transparent process in appointing the candidates who passed the evaluation in the judicial and prosecution bodies, earmarking of the resources needed for the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, additional measures as to the de-oligarchization, including relevant regulations in the financial flows. ‘’In parallel with the recommendations, we have made progress in other fields as well. We adopted the plan on accession to EU, which contains thousands of measures for adjusting the legislation to the rigours of the European legislation.’’ Nicu Popescu noted.

On 8 November 2023, the European Commission recommended that the European Union member countries initiate the negotiations on Moldova’s accession to EU. In June 2022, Moldova received the status of country candidate for accession to the European Union. The Moldovan authorities were submitted nine conditions for switching to the next stage of accession – the one of negotiations. This autumn, the degree of fulfillment of the European Commission’s recommendations was assessed; the action was succeeded by the decision on the starting of the negotiations on accession to EU.
