Chisinau, 15 November /MOLDPRES/ - The National Army today received the last consignment of Piranha-3 H armoured vehicles, provided by the government of Germany. Those 19 vehicles were presented at a ceremony held at the Military Camp 142.

The Piranha military technology units were provided in the context of the achievement of the goal of the National Army’s modernization and based on a contract signed by the Defence Ministry and the German side in October 2021.

Attending the event were Defence Minister Anatolie Nosatii, Ambassador of Germany to Moldova Margret Uebber, the leadership of the National Army, military attaches accredited to Moldova, as well as representatives of the company in charge of the transportation of the military technology to Moldova.

Minister Anatolie Nosatii said the action was a telling example of the efficient cooperation between the defence institutions of Moldova and Germany, which is carried out through diverse projects and initiatives implemented in the country.

„This event is important for the National Army, as well as for Moldova, as the assistance of our partners comes in the context of the consolidation of our country’s defence capacities. The efficiency of the trainings was enhanced with the involvement of the Piranha vehicles in the training process and, at the same time, the interoperability of our servicemen with the partners which train jointly has grown,’’ Anatolie Nosatii said.

For her part, Margret Uebber said: „Germany fully observes the neutrality status of Moldova. The delivery of these armoured vehicles is conceived exclusively in order to enhance Moldova’s defence capacities in the field of military mobility, as well as to allow the Armed Forces participating in international peacekeeping operations.’’

The Piranha-3 H vehicles are used in the process of training of servicemen from the Battalion 22 Blue Helmets, who are to be detached to special missions abroad.

The Moldovan-German cooperation in the military sector started in 2003, with the signing of the inter-ministerial agreement on cooperation in the defence sector.
