Chisinau, Nov. 16 /MOLDPRES/- At the European Council meeting, due on December 14-15, we are counting on a positive decision by the member states on the start of the accession negotiations of the Republic of Moldova to the EU. President Maia Sandu made the statement at a joint press conference with President of Austria Alexander Van der Bellen and President of Slovenia Nataša Pirc Musar, on an official visit to Chisinau.

Maia Sandu noted that the visit of the two officials represents a strong signal of support for the European path, and we are welcome in the EU family. "Today we discussed the achievements and the actions we are going to take. The visit is carried out after a week ago the European Commission recommended the start of negotiations for our country's accession to the EU. This step is a recognition of the joint effort. The Republic of Moldova has initiated serious reforms to improve the lives of citizens. Our objective is for the country to be ready to join the EU by 2030. Today's visit shows we are not alone. With such friends we will succeed in building Europe here at home. We are trying to convince all the member states to support us in the European integration process", said Maia Sandu.

President of Austria Alexander Van der Bellen said that his country and the Republic of Moldova have excellent bilateral relations. "It is about the parliamentary, governmental and economic community levels. Austria fully supports Moldova's efforts to become a member of the European family. The Republic of Moldova must carry out the necessary reforms, which require strong political will, as well as the citizens' support. The future of the Republic of Moldova is in big Europe, and Austria will be with you in this process", said Alexander Van der Bellen.

At the same time, President of Slovenia Nataša Pirc Musar said that the country supports the Republic of Moldova on the European path. "Slovenia is ready to share its experience.
