Silence day today in Moldova, before runoff election of general local polls

Chisinau, 18 November /MOLDPRES/ - Today is the silence day in Moldova, ahead of the runoff election of the general local polls and the repeated elections in some settlements of the country, due on 19 November 2023. Under the Electoral Code, the electoral agitation is strictly banned on the day before the elections and on the day of the polls.  

The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) warns that the carrying out/coverage of activities/materials with electoral content, as well as the appearance of candidates for elections in TV or radio programmes is forbidden on these two days.  

Also, the electoral contenders cannot make transfers to and from the account with the title, Electoral Fund.

The continuation of the electoral agitation by mass media, electoral contenders and citizens represents an administrative contravention and is sanctioned with fine worth from 750 to 1,500 lei, imposed to private people or with fine worth from 1,750 to 2,500 lei, imposed to official or electoral contender.  

The runoff election of the general local polls will be held in 273 settlements of Moldova on 19 November. At the same time, repeated voting will take place in eight settlements on the same day.
