Chisinau, 30 November /MOLDPRES/ - Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada (parliament) of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk today gave a speech in the parliament of Moldova.

According to the legislative body’s communication and public relations department, the official expressed gratitude for the support provided by Moldova to the Ukrainian people. ‘’We have felt and we continue to feel the support of Moldova, a small country with a great heart. I deeply bow and sincerely thank the people of Moldova for the fact that, since the first day of the war, they opened the border and homes for tens of thousands of Ukrainian women and children, who were fleeing the Russian terror,’’ Chairman of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk said.

The Ukrainian speaker firmly condemned the war started by Russia in Ukraine and the Holodomor. ‘’I thank you that you condemned the war crimes and the crimes against  the humanity committed by Russia on the territory of Ukraine and especially for the adoption, in November 2022, of an important declaration on the condemnation of the Holodomor from 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people. This fact shows the solidarity with the Ukrainian nation, which defends both the peace and freedom of the European continent and of Moldova,’’ the Kiev official said.

In his speck, Ruslan Stefanchuk referred to the common ambitions of Ukraine and Moldova on the European integration way. ‘’The recommendation of the European Commission on the opening of the negotiations on accession to the European Union with Ukraine and Moldova is an important border stone for our future common history. It has become a sign of recognition of the fact that the Ukrainians and the Moldovans belong to the European family. We are confident that both Ukraine and Moldova must certainly be member states of the European Union,’’ the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada stressed.

For his part, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu expressed, on behalf of Moldova’s citizens, gratitude for the sacrifice the Ukrainian nation is making for everybody’s freedom. The Moldovan parliament speaker repeatedly condemned the war waged by Russia against Ukraine for almost two years, noting that Moldova would further remain with the Ukrainians. Igor Grosu specified that both Ukraine and Moldova had chosen to be part of the free world, where the human life and the respect for the human dignity represent supreme values and the integration into EU is an irreversible one.

„We have ruled together to separate from the Evil Empire, a decision which cost us human lives and territories occupied and we together received the status of countries candidates for EU membership. Our hope is that, in the nearest future, all EU member states will unanimously support the opening of the negotiations on accession to EU for Ukraine and Moldova. We must act as a single voice and this will be the strongest signal that we are united in a crucial moment for this century,’’ the parliament speaker added.

According to the Moldovan parliament speaker, both Moldova and Ukraine are determined to do their homework and accomplish the European integration way, with the history being the one which teaches us that the windows of opportunity do not stay opened much time and the victory is possible only in unity.
