President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu participated today together with Speaker Igor Grosu and Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu in a reception held by the Embassy of Romania in Chișinău on Romania's National Day.

In her message addressed to the officials and guests, the Head of the State emphasized the historical significance of 1 December 1918, and the values that laid the foundation of the Great Union – peace, freedom, and democracy – values now under pressure from an increasingly challenging security context. President Sandu mentioned that in the Republic of Moldova, Romania, and all of Europe, "we live under the pressure of a brutal war at our borders, whose consequences reach our villages and households," highlighting the need to strengthen resilience against hybrid attacks.

The Head of State highlighted Romania's consistent support for the Republic of Moldova and the crucial role of joint projects – in infrastructure, energy, and connectivity – in strengthening the resilience of both sides of the Prut River. Additionally, the President reiterated that strengthening common resilience relies on the advancement of the Republic of Moldova on the path of joining the European Union, a process in which Romania remains the country's strongest advocate.

"In the long term, we will only be able to consolidate our common resilience through the firm anchoring of the Republic of Moldova into the European Union – a path that Romania supports with consistency and determination," stated Maia Sandu.

Romania's National Day is marked annually on 1 December, commemorating the adoption of the Resolution of the Great National Assembly in Alba Iulia in 1918.
