Accredited Ambassador of Moldova presents copies of credentials at Kazakhstan's Foreign Affairs Ministry
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Alibek Bakaev today received Accredited Ambassador of Moldova to Kazakhstan Stefan Gorda, for the presentation of copies of the letters of accreditation in Astana.
At the meeting, Ambassador Gorda emphasized that the opening of the new diplomatic mission was proof of the importance that Moldova attaches to developing friendly relations and cooperation with Kazakhstan, “relations which are based on a solid tradition and an active partnership on the international stage.”
“The officials appreciated the steady pace of political dialogue and economic exchanges between the two countries, with discussions focusing on leveraging opportunities for deepening bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest, such as trade, energy, education and cultural exchanges. The sides also highlighted the importance of exchanging experiences on the path to modernization of both states, as well as expanding collaboration within international and regional organizations, in order to promote regional peace and stability,” said the Embassy of Moldova in Kazakhstan.
Deputy Minister Bakaev reconfirmed Kazakhstan's commitment to developing pragmatic relations, based on mutual respect and supporting Moldova. He emphasized that the relations between the two states would continue to develop, strengthening political and economic dialogue.
Ambassador Gorda unveiled the priorities of the European path and regional cooperation of Moldova. At the same time, the official assured that the country would stay a reliable partner in strengthening bilateral relations, supporting joint initiatives and developing projects of mutual interest.
In last summer, the government approved the decision to open a diplomatic mission of Moldova in Kazakhstan, headquartered in Astana. The domestic procedures for implementing the decision to open the new embassy were completed in January, this year, and in March, the cabinet approved the appointment of Stefan Gorda as Moldova’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan.
According to Moldova’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kazakhstan is a country with one of the largest economies in Central Asia, and a new embassy would help Moldova expand its trade relations and capitalize on new economic opportunities in the region.
According to the cited source, in 2023, the trade volume of Moldova with Kazakhstan increased significantly and amounted to 101.55 million dollars, up by 52 per cent compared to 2022. On the concerned period, Moldova's exports to Kazakhstan totaled 41.11 million dollars, also increasing by 44 per cent against 2022, accounting for 1.02 per cent of the total export value.
