Ambassador ends term in Chișinău

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi had a farewell meeting with Head of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova, Ambassador Jānis Mažeiks, marking the end of his four-year mandate.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two officials reviewed the key developments in Moldova-European Union relationship in 2021 - 2025. Noteworthy milestones include obtaining candidate status for accession (June 2022), launching accession negotiations (June 2025), and strengthening the security and defense partnership (May 2024).

The Moldovan official expressed gratitude for the consistent support provided by the European Union, including through the Economic Growth Plan 2025–2027, the EUPM Partnership Mission and the European Peace Facility (EPF).

“From a neighboring state, we have become a security partner and a future member of the European Union. We thank Ambassador Jānis Mažeiks for his contribution,” declared the Moldovan official.

Ambassador Mažeiks appreciated the progress made by the Republic of Moldova in the accession process and reaffirmed the EU's support for deepening cooperation in the security and defense.
