Moldovan Speaker to attend EU Speakers Conference

Speaker Igor Grosu will participate in EU Speakers Conference, due on 3–5 May in Copenhagen, hosted by the Parliament of Denmark.

The meeting will address the main challenges facing European states, including security and enlargement of the European Union, democratic resilience and hybrid threats. In this context, ways in which the parliaments of EU member states can support candidate countries will also be discussed.

Grosu has scheduled meetings with his counterparts from several European countries, including the President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Belgium, Vincent Blondel, the Speaker of Albania, Niko Peleshi, the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia, Zoran Stevanović, the President of the National Council of the Slovak Republic, Richard Raši, and the Marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, Włodzimierz Czarzasty.

The Speaker will meet with members of the diaspora to talk with Moldovan citizens living in Denmark about the realities in the Republic of Moldova, the country’s development priorities, European path and the steps taken in the accession to the European Union.

The agenda also includes a visit to the Danish Emergency Management Agency, which will provide an opportunity to learn from best practices in the field.

The EU Speakers Conference is a forum for dialogue and the exchange of views, information and experience regarding the role and responsibilities of national parliaments within the European structure, as well as the instruments for interparliamentary cooperation in European affairs. The meeting is attended by the speakers of EU member states, the President of the European Parliament, the speakers of candidate countries and representatives of partner states.
