Speaker: If we lose European path, we lose only opportunity to develop Moldova
Speaker Igor Grosu provides public clarifications on some statements that have been publicized in the Moldovan press and taken out of context.
"I see that all kinds of statements of mine taken out of context are being published, but I want to make some clarifications," he said.
Grosu emphasizes that he has said "always and will say on every occasion" that without the European path, the Republic of Moldova risks losing access to European funds, which would mean stagnation or regression in local and regional development.
"If we lose the European path, we lose access to European funds, which means we also lose the only chance and possibility to develop the Republic of Moldova. We unfortunately do not have sufficient resources to make these investments on our own. We will no longer be able to create sewage systems, water pipes, roads in villages and cities – projects that are very costly and that we have implemented at an unprecedented accelerated pace in the last 4 years, thanks to the European help."
In the same context, he drew attention to the risks of a potential eastward orientation.
"Do not think that Putin and the criminal groups will invest in our villages. The Russians and the bandits come to take, not to give – and we have all seen this for the last 30 years."
Igor Grosu urged citizens to be vigilant to manipulations and to get information from secure and verified sources.
The statements come amid public debates regarding the strategic direction of the Republic of Moldova and in the context of the upcoming presidential elections and the referendum on European integration.
