Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has arrived in Chicago, where he leads a busy schedule of meetings with the Diaspora, the business community and representatives of American authorities. The visit aims to strengthen Moldova-USA relations and promote the reforms Moldova is implementing on its European path.

"We have arrived in Chicago, where we have a full schedule. I met Moldovans who have succeeded in opening businesses here and who have plans to also develop Moldova. We also met with the Diaspora – a nice community, connected to everything happening back home," said Igor Grosu, highlighting the central role of the Moldovans’ community in the USA.

The parliament speaker and Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi had a discussion with members of the community in Chicago during a meeting hosted at Moldova’s General Consulate, officially opened in March 2025. Grosu emphasized the importance of the consular office for bridging the gap between the state and citizens abroad.

The delegation's agenda also included meetings with Moldovan entrepreneurs who have succeeded in the USA. Officials visited the company Dynamic Investments, led by Vasile Sorocean, specializing in the construction of industrial spaces and heavy goods transportation, as well as C1 Holding, a group with six trucking companies, featuring an impressive fleet and dozens of employees from Moldova.

Grosu and Popsoi also visited Micola’s Savory Smokes in Plainfield, a store owned by Nicolae Ciobanu, which produces sausages and smoked meat using traditional ways. Moldova’s leaders appreciated the perseverance and effort of Moldovan entrepreneurs in the USA, contributing to promoting the country's image and enhancing bilateral economic relations.

The official visit continued with political meetings. The delegation met  Congressman Bill Foster, in whose jurisdiction the General Consulate operates. Discussions focused on political and economic developments in Moldova, as well as new cooperation opportunities. Both Foster and Igor Grosu emphasized the active role of the Diaspora in the social and economic life of the region.

The agenda also included a meeting with the mayor of Naperville, Scott A. Wehrli, where the sides discussed joint initiatives, local partnerships and opportunities for collaboration.

Through his active presence in Chicago, Igor Grosu delivered a clear message: Moldova relies on its Diaspora, on its strategic relationship with the USA, and on strengthening partnerships that support the country's modernization.

Moldova reaffirms its full solidarity with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people in the context of the war started by the Russian Federation. The message was conveyed at a meeting of Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu with Keith Kellogg, the US Presidential envoy for Ukraine.

"We advocate for Ukraine's territorial integrity and a peace agreement that does justice to the Ukrainian people. This is important for lasting peace across the entire European continent," Igor Grosu said in his message.
