Former Moldovan MP remains in custody for one more month; Court of Appeal rules to extend detention

A former MP, Vladimir Andronachi, will remain in preventive detention for another 30 days, after the Court of Appeal today approved the prosecutor's request to extend the preventive measure.

According to the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (PA), the Chisinau Court ordered the continuation of preventive detention for the ex-parliamentarian involved in a case of money laundering on a large scale.

Andronachi was initially detained on September 2, 2025, for 72 hours, after which the court ordered the enforcement and extension of the arrest.

Prosecutors accuse Andronachi of money laundering in two episodes: in the first case, it involves 360,000 dollars, and in the second, 100,000 dollars.

Vladimir Andronachi acted as deputy starting from February 2015 till July 2021. He was also the vice president of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM).

The former PDM lawmaker is also involved in other criminal cases. They include the "Bank Fraud," the file on the procurement of passport blanks and "Metalferos." Vladimir Andronachi was detained at the beginning of November 2022, being suspected of large-scale fraud in the interest of a criminal organization and directly in the interest of Vladimir Plahotniuc. The former MP was tasked with getting the necessary permits from the National Bank of Moldova, which allowed the criminal organization members to embezzle over 12.5 million U.S. dollars and over 23.8 million euros from Banca de Economii (Savings Bank).

Subsequently, Vladimir Andronachi was placed under house arrest and in August 2023, he was released on personal guarantee.
