President Maia Sandu has met the national rugby teams of Moldova, which had achieved remarkable results in European competitions this year. For the first time in history, the country's women's team became European champions, while the men's team finished the competition in second place, becoming European runners-up for the third consecutive year.

“Every country is proud of its champions. For a country like Moldova, such results are all the more important,” Maia Sandu said.

The Moldovan president emphasized that, through their achievements, the sportspeople contributed to promoting the of Moldova abroad.

“Through your achievements, the world learns about Moldova, about the talented and ambitious people we have, and about what we can accomplish when we work with determination,” the head of state noted.

Maia Sandu said that, in recent years, the way the state supports sport had also been changing. Funding is increasingly allocated according to the specific characteristics and performance of each sport, while athletes benefit from scholarships and better conditions for training and participating in international competitions.

The head of state wished the sportspeople continued success and as many victories as possible.

“I wish you continued success, that you maintain the same determination and bring us joy with as many victories as possible,” Maia Sandu said.
