Tudor Bratu - World University Weightlifting Champion
Moldovan weightlifter Tudor Bratu became World University Champion in the 95-kilogram weight category, winning three gold medals at the competition in Doha. The athlete recorded a total of 350 kilograms, setting a new record for the International University Sports Federation (FISU).
According to the National Olympic and Sports Committee, Tudor Bratu lifted 159 kilograms in the snatch and 191 kilograms in the clean and jerk, accumulating a total of 350 kilograms.
In the 85-kilogram category, the Republic of Moldova won two more medals at the World University Weightlifting Championships. Alexandr Baldji became the World University runner-up with a total of 331 kilograms, while Victor Moroșanu finished third with 330 kilograms.
Both athletes won three medals each at the competition in Doha.
The World University Weightlifting Championships took place from September 8 to 12, 2026, in Qatar, bringing together 116 athletes from 21 countries.
