National weightlifting team wins 26 medals at World University Championships in Doha
The national weightlifting team won 26 medals at the World University Championships held in Doha, Qatar. Athletes from our country secured ten gold, eight silver and eight bronze medals.
At the competition, three athletes from the Republic of Moldova became world university champions, winning gold medals in their events. They are Dorin Betca (70 kg), Tudor Bratu (95 kg) and Alexandrina Ciubotaru (77 kg), with the latter two also setting two world records at the competition.
Ion Badanev also won one gold and two silver medals; Adriana Conac secured two silver and one bronze medal; Alexandru Baldji won two silver and one bronze medal; Victor Moroșanu earned one silver and two bronze medals; Anastasia Palic won three bronze medals; and Stanislav Uja secured one silver and one bronze medal.
Following the results, the Republic of Moldova ranked second in the overall medal standings among the 21 participating countries.
