
Communities of Ungheni, Cahul to modernize infrastructure with EU assistance
Chisinau, 30 April /MOLDPRES/- EU4Moldova: Key Regions program launched a call for funding for projects to develop community utility infrastructure and provide local public services in urban and rural communities in Cahul and Ungheni districts, with the European Union assistance. The applications will be sent by 16 June.
Communities or groups of communities in key regions will benefit this year from non-reimbursable assistance of up to two hundred thousand euros each, provided by European funds.
"Project proposals that contribute to the development of public utility infrastructure and local public services with an impact on local economic development in the key regions of Cahul and Ungheni will be financially supported. The highest priority is given to rural-rural or urban-rural inter-community cooperation projects, as well as interventions based on local economic development, promoting integrated, efficient and environmentally friendly solutions ", EU4Moldova: Key Regions program manager Alexandru Pelivan said.
Applicants for funding can be level I local public authorities from Cahul and Ungheni districts. Projects proposed for funding must meet the following eligibility criteria: correspond to the eligible areas of funding and derive from local development strategy papers; to ensure a mandatory financial contribution of at least 20% of the total project budget; at least 90% of the budget to be invested in the execution of construction works and the purchase of equipment.
Also, at least 90% of the final beneficiaries must be residents of the communities in Ungheni and Cahul districts, and the implementation period of the project must be a maximum of 24 months from the date of signing the financing agreement.
The financing proposals are to cover the following areas / sectors: local road infrastructure (rehabilitation and modernization); water supply and sewerage systems; Energetic efficiency; solid waste management; planning and arrangement of public spaces; public utility infrastructure; urban / rural infrastructure.
The program supports smart, inclusive and sustainable socio-economic development in Cahul and Ungheni to ensure a better quality of life for citizens. The program is estimated at 23 million euros, funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
