Renovation of park on left bank of Dniester brings new breath to settlement's community
Chisinau, 23 May /MOLDPRES/ - Over 2,000 children and adults will benefit from the recently re-arranged park from Speia – a village placed on the left bank of Dniester. The improvements have become possible due to the partnership between the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Moldova, Switzerland and the local community. The leisure area, recently re-arranged and inaugurated on 22 May, includes an area for official and entertainment events, wood sculptures, cradles and other facilities of spending the free time.
As part of the park’s modernization, 1,400 square metres of pavement, 12 sets of street lamps, benches and dustbins were set. A modern system of supply with electric energy and water, as well as an irrigation system were set too. Till the end of the re-arrangement works, many community activities were carried out, including planting of trees, sanitation and raising funds for purchasing trees for the park. The residents planted over 200 trees and bushes and bought a full set of gardener’s tools for the park’s maintenance.
„The entire community was involved in the arrangement of this park, financially or by volunteering work, both those who live in the settlement or abroad. We invested much soul and this project united a lot as community. We believe that this space and the events due to be organized here will create wonderful memories for the residents from Speia,’’ the manager of the natives’ initiative group, Eleonora Crohmaliuc, said.
The overall budget for the local park’s modernization exceeded 70,000 dollars, which includes contributions worth 46, 500 dollars on behalf of Switzerland and UNDP, 10,000 dollars on behalf of the Diaspora and the rest of the sum was earmarked from local funds.
Speia is one of the two partner communities which pilots the model of migrants’ involvement in the local development on the left bank of Dniester, following the successful implementation of this approach in 116 communities on the right bank of Dniester, as part of the project, Migration and Local Development. The piloting process is backed by OSC Agency for Regional Development from Tiraspol.
