President Maia Sandu today addressed citizens. She highlighted the importance of the parliamentary elections due on September 28 and warned about the risks to which the democratic process is subjected.
"On September 28, Moldova will elect its parliament for the next four years - the institution where the country's direction will be decided from now on. The very fate of Moldova is at stake, and together, we have a duty to protect our peace and the chance for a better future. I trust the Moldovans and our wisdom to defend our freedom and future," said the head of state.
In her message, Maia Sandu drew attention to attempts by foreign forces to influence the elections by corrupting voters and misinformation campaigns.
"Unfortunately, our democracy is increasingly attacked by foreign forces who, with dirty money, want to buy our votes, who spread lies and try to scare us through destabilization actions. We see how people who work openly for Russia, not for Moldova, act to destroy the fairness of the elections and undermine our future," emphasized the president.
The head of state made a direct call to the responsibility of the parties and candidates in the race.
"I urge all electoral competitors to understand their responsibility before the citizens and to act strictly in the national interest, to respect the law and to serve only the citizens of Moldova," Maia Sandu stressed.
At the same time, the Moldovan president urged citizens to be vigilant against manipulation and electoral corruption, to report illegalities to the police and to help their relatives to get properly informed.
"I urge you, dear citizens, to listen to your conscience, to be attentive to all information, letters, calls and false videos with which we will be intoxicated in the coming period, to be brave and not to be afraid of their threats," said Sandu.
In her speech, the president reminded that citizens in last autumn decided introduce in the Constitution the goal of Moldova's accession to the European Union.
"It is our country's chance to enter the European family of peace and development, and we have the duty not to lose this chance," Maia Sandu said.
The parliamentary elections due on September 28, 2025, will decide the composition of the legislative body for the next four years. The electoral campaign takes place between August 29 and September 26 and the elections occur in a sensitive geopolitical context, marked by regional tensions and Moldova's efforts to advance on the European integration path. International observers are expected to monitor the electoral process, in order to guarantee transparency and fairness of the elections.
