BTA: Exhibition Presents Cinema Through Eyes of Artist Eva Teneva-Zaikoff

An exhibition entitled "10 Years - 100 Films" presents cinema through the eyes of artist Eva Teneva-Zaikoff. Hundred graphic paintings of hers will be on display at Sofia's Cinema House from January 13 to 31, the organizers from Bulgarian Film Society said.

The organization marks its 10th anniversary and the Day of Bulgarian Cinema on January 13.

The works are illustrations for a new collection of film reviews, which cover 100 Bulgarian films published over the last decade and are published on the specialist platform filmsociety.bg. The collection will be released in partnership with the Janet 45 publishing house.

"Eva Teneva-Zaikoff's graphic drawings transform film criticism into images - the graphics do not directly illustrate the films, but offer an authorial visual interpretation of the ideas, emphases, and moods. Thus, the exhibition, which features portraits of Bulgarian actors and drawings of film interiors, creates a dialogue between the textual and the visual, between analysis and emotion, between cinema and graphics," comment the organizers.

The exhibition is part of the programme of the National Film Centre and the Bulgarian National Film Archive, which in 2026 will celebrate the Day of Bulgarian Cinema with special initiatives throughout the month of January.

The exhibition's opening on January 13 will be opened by Teneva-Zaikoff, together with Elena Mosholova and Nikolay Todorov, founders of the Bulgarian Film Society  and producers of the project, implemented by the Seven Association in partnership with the production company Screening Emotions and the Cult Lab Foundation. Film professionals from different generations, directors, producers, actors, and artists are expected to attend.

Some of the works will be displayed at the Odeon cinema as of January 15.

Eva Teneva-Zaikoff works in painting, photography, fashion, performance, graphic design, and illustration. She is an art and creative director at an international advertising agency, a lecturer, and a mentor. She graduated in graphic design from the National Academy of Arts in Sofia. Some of her most recent solo exhibitions were at the Musa pavilion during the Venice Biennale and in Brussels.
