Moldovans from Quebec to be eligible for pensions, social benefits
Moldovan citizens who work or have worked in the province of Quebec, Canada, will be able to benefit from old-age pensions, disability or survivor pensions, as well as social benefits in the event of a workplace accident. In the context, the cabinet of ministers approved the initiation of negotiations for a Social Security Agreement with the Government of Quebec.
The agreement will enable Moldovan citizens to receive pensions by combining work periods in Moldova and Quebec. The payments of pension will be made monthly and will be transferred to beneficiaries in their state of residence – either in Moldova or in the province of Quebec.
Moldova has a Social Security Agreement with Canada, but since Quebec is the largest province of Canada, with its own social security system, a distinct agreement is necessary.
Presently, approximately 15,000 Moldovan citizens reside in the province of Quebec.
Moldova has signed Social Security Agreements with 20 countries.
