New batch of 133 projects for modernization of local roads through Europe is Close Programme to receive funding from Moldova's state budget
The Europe is Close Programme now includes 353 projects either underway or in preparation out of the total 579 selected for implementation. A new batch of 133 projects will receive funding from the state budget, added to the 220 projects launched in last July. Ion the days to come, the mayors of the villages included in this new batch will be invited to sign the funding contracts, after which they can initiate public procurement to select contractors.
In total, over 880,000 people from 561 localities, as well as over 2,000 public institutions will benefit from more modern, safer and more comfortable roads and access ways. Investments involve the rehabilitation/construction of 41 km of local roads of district and municipal interest, 294 km of communal roads and streets within settlements and 120 km of pedestrian and sidewalk paths leading to schools, kindergartens, medical institutions and other public services.
The total value of the projects is about 1.69 billion lei, of which 1.5 billion lei come from the National Fund for Regional and Local Development. Local authorities contribute about 190 million lei.
So far, the progress of the Europe is Close Programme, based on the first 220 projects launched in the summer, is as follows: 14 projects are completed, 49 have works carried out and are in the organization of reception procedures, 103 are underway, 35 have contracts prepared to start works, 19 are in public procurement procedures.
As for the European Courtyard Programme, at present, 56 projects are underway, of which 50 are in the implementation stage and 6 are in repeated procurement procedures. Meanwhile, for the additional list of 32 courtyards announced earlier, public procurement is launched this week for contractor’s selection, and in the next period, design service procedures for another 150 courts will be launched, so that works can start in February 2026.
