Moldelectrica enterprise repeatedly asks for emergency power

Moldelectrica was forced to request emergency electricity once more on the afternoon and evening of December 8. The request was prompted by the imbalance in the power grid due to limited capacity on the interconnection with Romania and deviations from forecast values of consumption and generation on the electric energy market. Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu has made statements to this effect.

According to the official, these deliveries are separate from those made by the central supplier Energocom, based on commercial contracts or energy exchanges and are much more expensive. The final price will be known at the beginning of the next month during the settlement processes, Dorin Junghietu highlighted.

The NTC for the Ukraine-Moldova control block is 2150 MW for the current week. The allocated value is weekly calculated by the Regional Coordination Centres of the system operators.

On the night of 5 to 6 December, a large-scale Russian airstrike hit Ukraine's power grid, causing casualties and emergency power outages in more regions. In the context, Moldova’s Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu on December 7 informed   that Moldova's power grid was under pressure following massive attacks launched by the Russian Federation on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. The strikes damaged a significant energy group in the region close to Moldova and the interconnection lines have reached near maximum load capacity.

As a result of exceeding the planned flow, the national operator Moldelectrica asked for emergency aid from Romania for the following hours, a measure meant to stabilize the network and avoid the risk of overloads.
