1 March 2025, Chișinău – The strong Moldovan-Romanian partnership, the possibilities for expanding bilateral projects and mutual support for protecting common European values were discussed at a meeting between Prime Minister Dorin Recean and Romania's Acting President Ilie Bolojan.

"We rely on each other to protect common European values: respect for life, freedom and the well-being of our citizens. Together we will continue concrete projects that improve people's lives - modern infrastructure, freedom of movement, energy interconnection," said Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

The joint projects that need to be accelerated include energy infrastructure projects, through which our country will connect to the European energy system, namely the construction of Bălți-Suceava and Strășeni-Gutinaș power lines. Additionally, other priority objectives include the construction of the four cross-border bridges, currently in the design phase, and the rapid launch of work on the first highway-type road bridge Ungheni-Ungheni. The development of railway infrastructure at Fălciu-Cantemir bridge was also discussed. The two officials also discussed implementing projects funded by the 100 million euro assistance provided by Romania, which includes expanding water and sewage networks, modernizing kindergartens and schools, and other measures to improve people's lives.

In the context of current regional challenges and the elections taking place in both states this year, the leaders emphasized the need for close cooperation in combating disinformation.

"The war at our border shows us, more than ever, how important it is to have friends alongside whom we can move forward with determination and solidarity towards a secure and dignified future. Our common effort is one for peace, democracy, and the right of citizens to decide their own future – free from foreign influences. A strong and stable Romania also means a safer Moldova, better anchored on the European path," Recean said.

He appreciated Romania's consistent diplomatic support for the Republic of Moldova on the international stage and our country's European path. Romania's Acting President Ilie Bolojan assured that Romania will continue to firmly support the European path of the Republic of Moldova and will provide the necessary assistance in this process.

The leaders also reiterated the stable commercial-economic relations, with Romania maintaining its position as the number one commercial partner of the Republic of Moldova and leading the ranking of major foreign investors, by investment volume and the number of enterprises operating in our country.

During today's official visit to Chișinău, Romania's Acting President Ilie Bolojan also met with President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu and speaker Igor Grosu.
