Moldovan deputy PM says Chisinau Summit response to results Moldova is achieving in modernization process

The Moldova - European Union Summit, held on July 4, in Chisinau, is an expression of European solidarity and a concrete response to the results that Moldova is achieving in its modernization process. Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov has made statements to this effect.

"Today, Europe has come to our home. For the first time, our country hosted the Moldova-EU Summit. We were pleased to have Antonio Costa - President of the European Council, and Ursula von der Leyen - President of the European Commission, in Chișinău.

This historic event reaffirms the European Union's political and financial support, as well as efforts to stand by us and help our citizens. It is also a response to the results Moldova is delivering in the process of transformation and modernization  of the entire country and a strong message of solidarity that Moldova is not alone in facing unprecedented internal and external challenges," emphasized Gherasimov.

The official informed that the leaders of the EU institutions and those of Moldova had discussed the accession process, political dialogue and reforms undertaken, economic growth and sectoral cooperation, combating hybrid threats and strengthening resilience, as well as regional and international security challenges.

"The Joint Declaration adopted at the Moldova-EU Summit conveys a very strong signal of confidence from the EU," stressed Gherasimov.

At the same time, Cristina Gherasimov highlighted the key points of the Chisinau Summit’s Declaration:

- The future of Moldova and its citizens is in the European Union;

- Enlargement represents a geostrategic investment in peace, security, stability and prosperity;

- Reiterating the commitment to quickly advance the EU accession process of Moldova;

The leaders of the European Union and Moldova today assembled in Chișinău for the first bilateral Summit; they adopted a joint declaration noting the progress made by the country in implementing reforms and reaffirmed the EU's strong commitment to supporting Moldova on its European path. Following the Summit, the disbursement of the first tranche of 270 million euros from the Growth Plan was announced, and European officials declared they expect the opening of all negotiation chapters "as soon as possible."
