Family members of Moldovan diplomats working in Ukraine to be able to take up employment

Family members of the staff of Moldova’s Embassy in Ukraine and of Moldova’s  Consulate General in Odesa will be able to take up employment. This is stipulated in an Agreement approved by the Government today.

Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sergiu Mihov said that the relevance of the treaty lied in the tendency of states to create mechanisms aimed at ensuring that family members of the staff of diplomatic missions and consular offices can be employed in the countries where diplomatic personnel have been posted.

“Through such treaties, concluded also with other states, the right to work provided for by the legislation of the concerned states is ensured, on the one hand, and the protection of the family is promoted, on the other hand. The implementation of this agreement will allow family members of the staff of Moldova’s Embassy in Ukraine, as well as of the Consulate General of Moldova in Odesa to be employed and work in Ukraine,” said Sergiu Mihov.

The agreement also provides for the similar application of its provisions to persons dependent on members of the diplomatic mission or consular office of Ukraine, who want to take up employment on the territory of Moldova.

The Agreement between the governments of Moldova and Ukraine on the employment in remunerated work of family members of members of diplomatic missions or consular offices was drawn up in Kyiv on February 10, 2026.
