Moldovan foreign affairs minister has talks with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights

Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi has had a meeting with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk. The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in the field of human rights, as well as on the challenges triggered by current crises, both regional and international.

The diplomacy head reiterated Moldova’s commitment to protecting and promoting fundamental rights at the national level, including in the context of the country’s current presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, which takes place as of November 14, 2025 till May 15, 2026.

Mihai Popsoi also informed about Moldova’s candidacy for election as a member of the UN Human Rights Council for the 2027–2029 term, with elections to be held in 2026. For his part, the UN official reconfirmed the readiness to support  Moldova and underlined the importance of strengthening joint efforts for the benefit of citizens.

The meeting took place in the context of Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi’s visit to Geneva, where he participated in the High-Level Segment of the 61st Plenary Session of the UN Human Rights Council.
