Moldovans working in Quebec to be eligible for pensions, social benefits
Citizens of the Republic of Moldova who work legally in Québec, Canada’s largest province, will be able to receive social benefits - old-age pensions, disability pensions caused by general health conditions, disability pensions and allowances resulting from workplace accidents or occupational diseases, as well as survivor’s pensions. The Government has approved the signing of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of Québec in the social security.
At the same time, the Agreement will allow the aggregation of employment periods completed in the Republic of Moldova and in Québec in cases where a person does not meet the minimum contribution period required to obtain a pension in a single state.
The date and place of the signing of the Agreement will be agreed upon after the completion of internal procedures. After being signed, the document will be submitted to the ratification procedure by the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.
According to official data, about 15,000 citizens of the Republic of Moldova live in Québec and are potential beneficiaries of the new Agreement.
