Moldovan PM says Russia, through crime rings, pours money for destabilizing Moldova, buying Moldovans' votes
The Russian Federation, through crime rings, "pours dirty money," in order to destabilize Moldova and buy Moldovans’ votes. Prime Minister Dorin Recean has made statements to this effect in an interview given with journalist Dmytro Gordon.
"They use dirty money through criminal networks to buy votes in Moldova. They give people money to vote against their own interest. Nevertheless, we have won," emphasized Dorin Recean.
The PM also said that Russia has "many supporters and servile persons," who represent the "fifth column," and the task of the authorities was to combat the propaganda and disinformation.
"Unfortunately, there are still many representatives of the 'fifth column.' Some perform the tasks dictated by the Kremlin quite efficiently. Our task is to fight this propaganda and to explain to people that they are being misinformed. What we notice is that they want to credit the idea of building a Russian world, insisting that their world is suitable for Moldova. At the same time, we also see massive support on behalf of Moldovans for European integration. Moldovans work in Spain, Italy, France, Germany; they have already understood where there is peace and order, where laws work, where there is democracy and where you won't be imprisoned for criticizing the government," Recean said.
Referring to the parliamentary elections due this year, the prime minister expressed confidence in the wisdom of the Moldovans and the choice made by the citizens of the country, regardless of Russia's attempts to destabilize and misinform. Dorin Recean added that the past elections had shown that Moldova stands firm in its position.
"In Moldova, we have a hybrid war, with all its aspects, including propaganda, disinformation, attempts of destabilization and vote-buying. But, nevertheless, the European integration vector has been introduced into the Constitution; we have a pro-European president. So, it doesn't matter how much money Russia will transfer to destabilize our country, but I am confident in the wisdom of our people and the choice our country's citizens will make at the parliamentary elections due this year," the PM added.
