Moldova joins three international conventions to facilitate trade, modernize customs procedures
The parliament has adopted, at a plenary meeting, a legislative package through which Moldova joins three international conventions aimed at simplifying trade formalities and harmonizing customs regimes with the ones from the European Union.
Among them, there is the Convention on the Simplification of Trade Formalities, which sets out measures designed to streamline export and import processes between the 37 signatory states. A central element is the introduction of the Single Administrative Document (SAD), applicable to all customs regimes, regardless of the nature and origin of the goods.
At the same time, Moldova has joined the Convention on a Common Transit Procedure, which includes the use of the electronic NCTS (New Computerized Transit System). This will allow real-time data exchange between customs authorities of the member states, significantly reducing time and costs for economic operators involved in transit operations.
A third ratified document is the International Convention on the Simplification and Harmonization of Customs Procedures (Kyoto Convention) and its amending Protocol. They focus on standardization, transparency and efficiency in the customs clearance process, in line with best international practices. So far, 137 countries have joined to this convention, committing to implement clear and predictable customs procedures.
According to authorities, joining these conventions will strengthen cooperation with EU member states, support the local business environment and contribute to Moldova’s economic integration into the European space by modernizing the Customs Service and accelerating trade processes.
