US to help Moldova deal with "Russian electoral interference"
Chisinau, Oct 16 /MOLDPRES/- The United States of America will help the Republic of Moldova to cope with "Russian electoral interference" in the presidential elections and referendum due on October 20. White House spokesman John Kirby made the statement at a press briefing, according to AGERPRES.
Russia is actively trying to sabotage the elections in Moldova and European integration.
The US official also spoke about "millions of dollars spent by Moscow in recent months to influence the results of Moldova's presidential elections", as well as about "tens of millions of dollars a month invested by Russian influence agent Ilan Shor in NGOs" that are spreading a pro-Kremlin message.
"The United States will continue to support Moldova and Moldovan people and to deter and thwart Russia's attempts to sabotage democracy in Moldova," Kirby said.
On October 20, Moldova will hold presidential elections and a constitutional referendum on Moldova's accession to the European Union. 11 candidates have registered to run for the Moldovan presidency. The electoral campaign will end on October 18.
