Coordinated control at Cantemir – Falciu railway border crossing point; Moldovan government approves agreement

The concept of coordinated control will be implemented at the Cantemir - Falciu railway border crossing point. The coordinated control will be applied on Romanian territory, in both directions of crossing. The government today approved an agreement on the matter between Moldova and Romania.

At the cabinet meeting, Interior Minister Daniella Misail-Nichitin, said that the implementation of the Agreement would bring more benefits to the citizens of Moldova, including reduced waiting time at the border, support for the local economy, access to jobs and services.

“Through this agreement, Moldova takes an important step towards modernizing border control and supporting citizens’ mobility,” the minister noted.

The agreement between the governments of Moldova and Romania on coordinated control on Romanian territory, in both directions of control, at the Cantemir - Falciu railway border crossing was signed in Bucharest on October 1, 2025.

The Cantemir-Falciu border crossing will be the third to operate based on the coordinated control concept, implemented at the Moldova-Romania border.

Coordinated control involves conducting border control on the territory of a single state, in two distinct stages. Thus, the control is first carried out by the authorities of the exiting state, namely from Moldova, followed consecutively by the authorities of the entering state - Romania. The authorities conduct their procedures separately, without overlap, but at the same crossing point, which allows for a smoother traffic flow, without the need of movement of people or vehicles between two different locations.
