Former MP of Moldova gets another 30 days or arrest for illegal border crossing, corruption

A former MP of the Moldovan Democratic Party (PDM), Constantin Tutu, today was given another 30 days of arrest for illegal border crossing and corruption.

An appeal to this effect was filed by prosecutors at the Central Court of Appeal for the objective continuation of investigations, after the Chisinau Court had rejected the request for the extension of preventive arrest and the placement of the former PDM lawmaker under house arrest.

Prosecutors charged the former deputy with two offenses allegedly committed in September-October 2025. They include illegal crossing of border with Ukraine and promising an amount exceeding 14,000 lei (in euros) to a border officer. to facilitate the crossing at the Vulcanesti-Vinogradovca post. Thus, the accused was detained by law-enforcers at the border crossing post, and the sum promised to the border official was found in his pocket—a fact qualified under the Penal Code as active corruption.

At the same time, the former parliamentarian is under investigation for influence peddling and illicit enrichment. Initially, his cases reached judges’ tables in May 2020 and November 2021, and were subsequently merged into a single case, currently examined at the Chisinau Court.

The ex-deputy was declared internationally wanted on September 24, 2025, after not appearing at a court hearing. Constantin Tutu was detained in Athens in last July, along with the former PDM leader, Vlad Plahotniuc. He was released by the Greek justice on September 3, 2025.
