Moldova's defense minister-designate says main directions of Defense Ministry strengthening airspace defense capabilities, enhancing resilience to hybrid challenges

The main directions of the Ministry of Defense are strengthening the airspace defense capabilities, endowment with modern equipment, enhancing the resilience to hybrid challenges and developing land forces. The designated Defense Minister, Anatolie Nosatii, today made statements to this effect at the parliament’s plenary meeting.

He thanked for the support the institution received during the previous mandate, which allowed for "changing the situation in the defense sector."

"Only by increasing budget allocations we have managed to change things, to start the reform that the military had long wanted. The main focus was on changing matters affecting people - creating better working conditions and improving the social package - everything needed to fulfill the mission in the country's interest well. The second aspect targeted the modernization of the army, which means changing all materials and technical weapons with new equipment, that provides safe operation and contributes to enhancing other military service activities. All activities were aimed at ensuring stability, security and increasing the operational potential of the national army. We are deployed in a pretty complicated area, with a war at the country's border, 11 per cent of territory uncontrolled by the central administration, illegal stationing of Russian troops on national territory, all of which pose various threats to national security. Therefore, we worked to change things, so that citizens feel safe, and we will continue to do this further," said Anatolie Nosatii.

In the context, the designated defense minister listed the priority directions of governmental activity in the coming years.

"The main directions are strengthening airspace defense capabilities, endowment  with modern equipment, enhancing resilience to hybrid challenges, such as informational or cyber protection, as well as developing land forces activities," said Anatolie Nosatii.

According to the new Government's Program, for strengthening national security, it is essential for Moldova to have a modern, professional and well-equipped army, capable of efficiently responding to contemporary challenges. In this regard, dignified defense requires investments in people and equipment, as well as cultivating a national culture of resilience and security.
