The current challenges of the prosecutorial system in the context of the reform process and alignment with European standards were discussed by representatives of the Superior Council of Prosecutors during a round table organized by the Council of Europe in Chisinau.

The event brought together representatives of the Prosecutor's Office, the Superior Council of Magistracy, the Governmental Agent of the Republic of Moldova, and international experts, offering a dialogue platform on the opinions of the Consultative Council of European Prosecutors (CCPE) and the implementation of European Union standards related to the activity of prosecutors, with a focus on independence, integrity and accountability.

Artashes Melikyan, CCPE Secretary, as well as Council of Europe consultants Anca Jurma and Răzvan Horațiu Radu, along with Mariana Chicu, Head of the Cooperation Programmes Unit of the Directorate General of Human Rights and Rule of Law, Council of Europe participated in the meeting.

The discussions addressed both European best practices and the current challenges of Moldova's prosecutorial system in the context of the reform process and alignment with European standards. During the round table, participants analyzed CCPE opinions and recommendations, which emphasize the fundamental principles of functional independence, professional ethics, accountability mechanisms, and institutional efficiency.

The event was a crucial opportunity to assess the compliance level of Moldova's prosecutorial system with the standards of the Council of Europe and the European Union. It was organized within the project “Strengthening the Criminal Justice System Based on Respect for Human Rights in the Republic of Moldova – Phase II” in cooperation with the CCPE.
