Moldovan wines were once again in the spotlight in Tokyo, where the second edition of the Wine Vernissage took place, organized by the National Office of Vine and Wine (ONVV), with the support of the Wine of Moldova Japan team. The event brought together 24 local producers, who presented over 200 wines, sparkling wines and spirits, showing the diversity and quality of the wine sector in the Republic of Moldova.

The opening ceremony was attended by Sergiu Gherciu, Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, Ștefan Iamandi, ONVV director, and Dumitru Socolan, Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Japan.

“ Wine Vernissage in Tokyo confirms the growing interest of Japanese consumers in our products. Moldova is no longer unknown on the world wine map, and Japan is becoming a strategic market for our exporters. We are pleased to see that Moldovan wines are appreciated for their quality, authenticity, and unique style,” said Sergiu Gherciu, Secretary General of MAIA.

The event in Tokyo aimed to strengthen the presence of Moldovan wines on the Asian market and develop business partnerships with distributors, importers, and industry experts. The vernissage also included professional tasting sessions, B2B meetings, and presentations dedicated to the viticulture heritage of the Republic of Moldova.

According to ONVV, exports of Moldovan wine to Japan have doubled in the last two years, a trend that reflects the growing international recognition of the brand “Wine of Moldova. A legend alive.”

The Republic of Moldova exports wines to over 70 countries worldwide, with Japan becoming one of the markets with the greatest growth potential due to the increasing interest in niche European wines, sustainably produced and with tradition.
