Crossing of Maiaki-Udobnoe bridge suspended again following another drone attack

The crossing of the Maiaki-Udobnoe bridge in Ukraine today afternoon was suspended again, following another drone attack. Under these circumstances, border authorities advise citizens to refrain from traveling in this direction.

According to the Border Police, currently, the processing of people and means of transport is conducted only for entry into Moldova at the Palanca-Maiaki-Udobnoe and Tudora-Starokazacie Border Crossing Points (BCP). Exit from the country is authorized only for citizens traveling to Belgorod-Dnestrovsk, Ukraine.

The crossing points at the Ukrainian border, Palanca-Maiaki-Udobnoe and Tudora–Starokazacie, on December 18 were closed after explosive-laden drones had hit the bridge over the Dniester, located outside the village of Maiaki–Udobnoe in Ukraine, around 16:00.

After being inactive for four and a half hours, the Palanca–Maiaki-Udobnoe and Tudora–Starokazacie crossing points were reopened to travelers crossing the border towards Ukraine.

This morning, the Border Police announced that the crossing of the Maiaki-Udobnoe Bridge had been suspended in the wake of another drone attack. As a result, the work of the Palanca-Maiaki-Udobnoe border crossing point was halted for exit from Moldova. Subsequently, traffic on the bridge was partially resumed, allowing crossing for all types of vehicles, except trucks.

Under these conditions, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), together with the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), provided accommodation for Ukrainian citizens whose travel to Ukraine was limited after the bombings at the bridge over the Dniester. IGSU operationalized a mobile camp in Palanca, in order to support individuals who chose to wait to cross the border for exit towards Ukraine through the Palanca and Tudora crossing points.
