New border crossing point to be set up between Moldova and Romania
A new border crossing point will be established between Moldova and Romania - Ungheni-Ungheni.
In this regard, the Government decided today to initiate negotiations and approve the signing of the Protocol amending the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of Romania regarding the state border crossing points between the Republic of Moldova and Romania, signed in Bucharest on November 13, 2009.
Minister of Internal Affairs Daniella Misail-Nichitin said that the amendment Protocol aims to create the necessary international bilateral legal basis for establishing the road border crossing point between Moldova and Romania Ungheni-Ungheni, with the status of a point open to international traffic.
“The new crossing point will facilitate the development of cooperation between Moldova and Romania, with the aim of ensuring border security. It will bring benefits for citizens and businesses by reducing waiting times, improving the flow of people and goods, stimulating bilateral trade, and facilitating cross-border mobility, contributing to deeper economic and social integration between the two states,” stated the Minister of Internal Affairs.
The establishment of the border crossing point is planned after on 26 April the construction of the Road Bridge over the Prut River, symbolically called Flower Bridge was launched in Ungheni, which will connect the two banks of the Prut.
