Around 500 12th-grade pupils from 21 high schools of Chisinau have taken part in the Open Day at the Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy (USMF). The event is being held as part of the 2nd edition of the Study in Moldova national campaign.

The career guidance and professional orientation event was opened by Sanda Buruiana, Dean of the Faculty of Residency, who delivered a welcome message to the pupils.

“Today’s dialogue, which we would like to develop by encouraging you to be curious, to discuss, ask questions and, why not, come up with proposals, is a continuation of the nice tradition of collaboration between high schools, colleges and universities. The Open Day aims to familiarize you with the educational offer, the integrated study programmes and the bachelor’s programmes offered by USMF Nicolae Testemitanu – a university with more than 80 years of tradition, European identity and excellence, based on the core values of medicine: truth, professionalism, humanity and respect for life! Choosing a specialty means building a career, a direction for personal development and we will be by your side along this long but interesting journey,” stated Sanda Buruiana.

Dean of the Faculty of Medicine No. 1 Gheorghe Placinta presented the integrated Medicine programme (6 years) and the bachelor’s programmes: General Nursing (4 years), Public Health, Optometry, Radiology and Imaging Technologies, as well as Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation (3 years). The Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Andrei Mostovei, spoke about the integrated Dentistry programme (5 years), announcing that this year a new bachelor’s programme, Dental Nursing, with a duration of 3 years, would be launched. For her part, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy Livia Uncu informed the students about the integrated Pharmacy programme and about the launch of the bachelor’s programme in Medical Cosmetics and Cosmetic Product Technology (3 years), starting with the 2026–2027 academic year.

Next, the pupils took part in interactive workshops on Basic Course in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Medical Emergencies: Airway Obstruction, organized by the University Center for Simulation in Medical Training in partnership with the Association of Medical Students and Residents of Moldova. The students were also introduced to medicinal plants, as well as the processes of preparing and testing medicines, during a workshop organized by the Faculty of Pharmacy, in partnership with the Association of Pharmacy Students of Moldova.

Afterwards, the pupils had the opportunity to visit the University Dental Center and the Faculty of Dentistry, where they interacted with future dentists, became familiar with the study process and the stages of competence development in this field, and took part in topic-related workshops, Learning Dentistry through Simulation and Digitalization and Oral Health Prevention, organized in collaboration with the Association of Dental Students of Moldova.

The programme also included visits to the Human Anatomy Museum, the Department of Anatomy and Clinical Anatomy, and the Department of Histology, Cytology and Embryology, where the students were able to attend practical classes and try out certain techniques with the help of medical students, as well as examine procedures in the study rooms and anatomical specimens.

The event was organized by USMF Nicolae Testemitanu under the aegis of the Ministry of Education and Research. In last February, during the three Open Days, more than 1,000 high school graduates from 41 high schools from Chisinau visited the USMF Nicolae Testemitanu.

The Study in Moldova campaign is organized annually. Its goal is to inform as many high school and college graduates as possible about the study opportunities available to them at home.
