VIDEO // Moldovan authorities expand measures on Dniester River: three absorbent dams installed at Arionesti and Cosauti settlements
The authorities are continuing actions to limit the pollution of the Dniester River, and three new absorbent dams have been installed in Moldova. Environment Minister Gheorghe Hajder has made statements to this effect.
According to the official, two dams were placed in the locality of Arionesti, Donduseni district, while the third one was set to secure the water intake station at Cosauti, Soroca district.
The minister specified that the presence of oil substances was currently recorded in the northern area of the river, but the authorities started a preventive assessment of all water intake stations, including the one in Chisinau.
At the same time, the authorities are cooperating with specialists from Romania, in order to establish the next steps and the areas where interventions can be most effective in limiting pollution.
The National Crisis Management Center (CNMC) has recently said that it adopted a string of preventive measures to protect public health and the ecosystem. The authorities have urged citizens to avoid using river water for drinking, cooking or other household activities until its quality is officially confirmed.
