Authorities encourage expansion of soybean cultivation in Moldova
Chisinau, Oct. 23 /MOLDPRES/- Soybean can be a valuable source of proteins and vegetable oils, contributing to reducing imports of agricultural products, according to Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, who met at the end of last week with the press specialized in agriculture.
According to the official, the expansion of areas cultivated with soybeans could significantly contribute to reducing imports of meal and other feed, since soybeans can be used as a rich source of protein for animal feed in the livestock sector, but also for human consumption. "At the same time, by creating the value chain, producers could obtain considerable profits", he said.
Vladimir Bolea also spoke about the importance of local soy processing. "This aspect could create new opportunities for the Moldovan food industry and would help better turn to good account the soy culture, both on the domestic and international markets," the cited source claims.
The event was organized under the auspices of the Donau Soja representation in Moldova, an independent, international, non-profit association for very diverse beneficiaries, based in Vienna, which brings together members from all levels of the value chain: producers, traders, processors and other organizations, promoting the cultivation, processing and consumption of high-quality non-genetically modified and ecological soybeans, control of origin from the Danube region.
