BNM raises base rate applied to main short-term monetary policy operations
The National Bank of Moldova (BNM) decided today to raise the base rate applied to its main short-term monetary policy operations to 11%, compared with the previous level of 9%.
Under the same decision, the interest rate on overnight loans was set at 13% per year, compared with the previous 11%; the rate on overnight deposits was set at 9% per year, compared with 7%; while the rate for repo operations was set at 11.25%, compared with 9.25%.
At the same time, the required reserve ratios on attracted funds were maintained at their current levels: 18.0% for funds in Moldovan lei and non-convertible foreign currencies, and 26.00% of the calculation base for funds in freely convertible foreign currencies.
According to the BNM, this decision aims to reduce inflationary pressures, mitigate the secondary effects of supply shocks, and encourage saving over consumption.
