Expansion of cooperation and new joint projects discussed at meeting of Moldovan-Chinese intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation

Opportunities to expand economic and trade cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and China, promote Moldovan exports on the Chinese market, attract investments, and develop joint projects were discussed at the ninth meeting of the Moldovan-Chinese Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation, held today in Shanghai.

The meeting was co-chaired by Claudiu-Iulius-Gavril Năsui, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization of the Republic of Moldova, and Ling Ji, Vice Minister of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and China’s Deputy International Trade Representative. During the meeting, the Protocol of the ninth session of the Commission was signed, establishing cooperation priorities for the upcoming period.

The event also marked the signing of a protocol on phytosanitary requirements for the export of fresh cherries. The parties agreed to finalize the procedure for signing the protocol on phytosanitary requirements for the export of honey from the Republic of Moldova to China, as well as to strengthen cooperation in promoting other Moldovan agricultural and food products.

The officials also discussed plans to develop four photovoltaic power plants with energy storage systems in the districts of Ialoveni, Cimișlia, Nisporeni, and Călărași, as well as initiatives to install photovoltaic systems in public medical and healthcare institutions.

According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, a separate topic of discussion was the potential to expand cooperation in the tourism sector, including the mutual promotion of tourist destinations, the development of wine, gastronomic, and rural tourism, and the establishment of direct partnerships between tourism operators from the two countries.

Statistics show that in 2025 the People’s Republic of China ranked second among the Republic of Moldova’s trading partners worldwide, accounting for 10.2% of Moldova’s total foreign trade.
