Moldovan energy minister in Paris says Moldova used challenges as opportunities to bring energy resources at best prices

Moldova has used challenges in the energy sector as opportunities to modernize its system and deliver natural gas and electricity to each consumer at the best prices.  Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu made statements to this effect at a discussion panel on Moldova’s energy independence, held in Paris.

The panel was organized in the context of the signing of the financing agreement with the French Development Agency (AFD), amounting to 30 million euros for the project titled, Initiative for the Development of Sustainable Public Infrastructure through Renovations of Energy Efficiency (INSPIREE), aimed at improving energy efficiency in public buildings.

‘’Moldova has used the challenges it has faced as opportunities to modernize its energy system, to speed up the development of energy markets and to secure the continuity of energy supplies, to deliver natural gas and electricity to each consumer at the best prices. At the same time, Moldova is working intensively on developing three interconnection lines with Romania and these strategic projects will significantly improve the country's energy security and support the integration of a higher percentage of renewable energy into the network,’’ the minister said.

The official reiterated Moldova’s firm commitment to the European integration and achieving the objectives of strengthening energy security and consolidating the green transition. The minister highlighted the support of foreign partners in overcoming the energy crises Moldova had faced over the last three years.

Also, Junghietu emphasized the need of attracting investments in the energy sector and invited French companies to participate in investment projects.

‘’Moldova is an ideal partner for investments, with a quickly developing energy sector and strategic projects which will be profitable on long term,’’ concluded the minister.

The energy minister thanked the French government and international partners for their constant support in the process of transforming the energy sector of Moldova.

During the visit to Paris, Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu had a meeting with the Executive Director of the French Development Agency (AFD) Philippe Orliange. The sides expressed mutual interest in strengthening efforts to support energy efficiency measures in the public and residential sectors of Moldova.
