Denmark takes over presidency of Council of European Union

Starting from 1 July 2025, Denmark will take over the presidency of the Council of the European Union for the next six months, announcing an ambitious agenda in the security and strengthening European defense. In this context, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov held a meeting in Brussels with Denmark's Permanent Representative to the EU, Ambassador Carsten Grønbech-Jensen, during which Moldova's European agenda was discussed.

“We have big and ambitious plans for the next half year and aim to advance as much as possible in the negotiation process for EU accession. In its European path, Moldova enjoys the friendship and full support of the authorities in Copenhagen,” Gherasimov said.

The Danish government said that the main priority will be continental security. Under the slogan “A Safe Europe,” Denmark will support accelerated investments in defense, simplification of procedures in this field, and strengthening the European defense industry. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen pointed out that in the current unstable regional context, the EU must respond firmly and unitedly to security challenges.

In addition to security, the Danish presidency's agenda also includes combating illegal migration through firm measures and new legislative proposals, including outsourcing asylum requests and limiting the interventions of the European Court of Human Rights.
